real. When children notice why a character made a choice, how they’re feeling beneath
the surface, or how they change over time, reading becomes more than just words on a
page—it becomes a conversation, a connection, and a mystery.

Riley Readmore and The Curious Characters was created to help children look closer at
the people inside the stories. With Detective Readmore as their guide, children will
learn to notice what characters say, think, do, and feel and how those clues help us
understand who they really are. This workbook turns character analysis into detective
work, inviting students to gather evidence, make thoughtful inferences, and draw their
own conclusions.

This workbook is designed to be flexible and student-led. Children can use it alongside
any book they are reading or alongside any of our literature classes. The pages can also
be completed in any order, allowing students to perform short reflections or investigate
each character deeply. The goal is not to rush through pages; instead, this workbook will build core reading skills—curiosity, observation, and confidence.

This workbook was created with the belief that strong readers are thoughtful readers.
When children learn to pay attention to characters—their struggles, choices, feelings,
growth, and more—they also learn empathy, perspective, and deeper comprehension.
My hope is that this workbook helps your child not only understand stories better but
also enjoy them more as Detective Readmore teaches them to turn every character into
a curious case worth investigating.
