Some of my fondest childhood memories involve sitting quietly in my room with a notebook, pencil, and my Bible. My mother would gently encourage me to copy a verse, not necessarily to improve penmanship, but to help me slow down and absorb the words. Those quiet moments were a time of connection, reflection, and peace.
Those precious memories are what inspired me to create this workbook. Copy work is a simple yet powerful tool that teachers have been using to improve penmanship for years. By carefully copying the guided text, your children will learn rhythm, structure, and spacing for good handwriting. That consistent repetition will then help to improve muscle memory, strengthen fine motor skills, and build confidence.
Using Bible verses for copy work adds a very meaningful layer to the process. As your students copy the Word of God, they will not only be practicing penmanship--they will also be meditating on scripture. The simple act of writing out a verse will hopefully encourage quiet reflection, reinforce memorization, and open the door to conversations about faith. It turns handwriting practice into a spiritual discipline as well as an academic one.
While learning to write neatly, copying scripture will also encourage your children to slow down, focus their minds, and appreciate the beauty of each word. There’s something truly special about writing verses by hand--something that typing or reading alone can’t quite match.
In addition to the verses, you will also find a simple coloring activity to go with each page. These pictures reinforce the theme of each verse and will allow your children to have a “brain break” between each exercise.
