I was born and raised in Rochester, New York. My siblings and I were homeschooled from kindergarten through twelfth grade. This experience afforded me not only a great education, but countless opportunities to try many different hobbies and connect with people across the globe.

I have always loved writing, but never thought of making it a career. After publishing a novel in 2008, I began getting requests from parents in my homeschooling community asking for writing assistance for their students. With the realization that there were many struggling students and parents, I launched The Lantern English Co. in 2008. It has been my greatest honor to teach students everything from grammar to essay writing to creative story development. I love seeing students succeed and realize that they can achieve anything they put their mind to!

Writing for me has always been a way to process life. In a formal sense, the written word is one of the best ways I am able to express myself and communicate with others and a primary way that I learn - by reading great works by others, whether those works are essays, books, poems, or songs. When it comes to writing - and education as a whole - I do not believe that there is a one-size-fits-all system. Rather, my goal in the creation of all of our classes and material at the Lantern English Co. has been to give students tools and the confidence they need to do well in whatever type of written work they are completing.

When I started The Lantern English Co., I was a newly graduated high school student with very little experience. I loved to write, and I had a long background in teaching piano, but I wouldn't have said I was a 'teacher.' Since then, I have grown up a lot and become a mom to four amazing kids. Now that I homeschool myself, I gain new perspective every single year. My experience as a mom and a homeschooler has given me insight that has improved the way we do things at The Lantern English Co. and has led me to open an online store for digital material that I am creating for my own kids.

I live in Richmond, Virginia with my husband Tim and our four kids -- Hudson, Addie, Chloe, and Everett. When I am not keeping up with the kids, I love a good book, a new recipe, a cup of coffee or tea, and perhaps some time figure skating at the local ice rink.
